ToolHaus

System Engineering Suite · v1.1.0 · free to use

One window for the jobs IT admins and service desk staff do every day: look up AD users and lockouts, compare group memberships, check mailboxes, fix remote PCs and clean up servers. Tasks that change or delete things ask before they run.

Download ToolHaus 1.1.0 (.zip, 61 MB) Contains ToolHaus.exe, LICENSE.txt, THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt and settings.example.json. Unzip and run ToolHaus.exe; there's nothing to install. SHA-256: d2c6d9717c4e36344f27290082c8ca25cbcf9eb5e964990be0ac18de350e5205

ToolHaus is free. If it saves you some time, you can buy me a coffee ☕

Code-signed from version 1.0. Windows shows the publisher as Bernardo Moreno (right-click ToolHaus.exe > Properties > Digital Signatures). The certificate is new, so SmartScreen may still show "Windows protected your PC" for a while. If it does, click More info, then Run anyway.

What you need

  • 64-bit Windows on a domain-joined PC
  • An admin account for the tasks that change things
  • WinRM turned on for remote PC and server tasks
  • The ExchangeOnlineManagement and Microsoft.Graph.Authentication PowerShell modules for Exchange Online

What ToolHaus does

Common Active Directory, Exchange and Windows troubleshooting jobs, each one a button instead of a PowerShell command you have to remember.

Active Directory

  • Find the source of an AD account lockout (event ID 4740 and the caller computer)
  • Check if a user is locked out, when their password expires and when they last logged on
  • Compare two users' AD group memberships, including nested groups, and export to CSV
  • Find the security group and share path for a file share folder
  • See which computers a user recently signed in to

Exchange and Microsoft 365

  • Check mailbox and archive mailbox size, item count and quota limits
  • List Outlook inbox rules and check SMTP and mailbox forwarding
  • Turn mailbox forwarding on or off (company addresses only)
  • Find and cancel a leaver's recurring meetings, with a message to attendees
  • Check and remove litigation hold, delay hold and other holds
  • Find disabled users still in cloud groups
  • Run eDiscovery content searches in Microsoft Purview: one user's mailbox and OneDrive, or the whole tenant, by sender, recipient, subject, keywords and dates
  • Works with Exchange Online and Exchange 2016 on-premises

Service desk: remote PCs

  • PC info report: hardware, OS, signed-in user, disk and network
  • Run DISM and SFC repair remotely and check their progress
  • Force an SCCM client sync, run gpupdate /force and klist purge
  • Reset the network stack (DNS flush, IP renew, Winsock reset)
  • Clean up disk space and remove stale user profiles
  • List mapped drives for every user on the PC
  • Check event logs for app crashes, disk errors, sign-in problems, unexpected shutdowns and Windows Update history
  • Review scheduled tasks, with a search box

Servers and Hyper-V

  • Server inventory and performance: CPU, RAM and OS
  • Free up C: drive space: temp folders, WinSxS cleanup and Disk Cleanup
  • Find the largest folders on a drive
  • Restart a Windows service remotely
  • Find Hyper-V VMs with old checkpoints
  • Post a message board banner that shows on every open ToolHaus on your team

ToolHaus is free to use under the ToolHaus Freeware License, but it isn't open source, and copies should only be shared by linking to this page. It's provided as is, with no warranty. Some tasks delete files, remove profiles or change mailboxes and settings, and can't be undone, so check what a task does and try it somewhere safe first.
